HSE’s Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) is one of the world’s leading providers of health and safety solutions to industry, government and professional bodies.
HSL has a long history of assessing workplace dermal hazards through measuring external (gloves and suit analysis, surface wipe samples, visualisation techniques, portable x-ray diffraction) and internal (biological monitoring) exposures. We provide experimental capabilities (including volunteer studies and in vitro techniques) as well as workplace reviews and experience in modelling (e.g. dART) and human exposure assessments.
We offer health and safety research, expert advice and consultancy, specialist training and products.
The Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) is an internationally-recognised provider of workplace health & safety consultancy, research, and laboratory services, supporting clients around the world from our headquarters in Edinburgh and regional offices in London, Stafford, Chesterfield and Singapore.
The main focus of our work is associated with helping clients understand and mitigate the risks to health from hazards in the workplace and in the wider environment. This includes occupational hygiene and safety advice; expert witness services; training; hazard and risk assessments; asbestos sampling, monitoring services & management; and laboratory services to identify & quantify chemicals and hazardous substances.
Since being established in 1969, we have extended our remit to provide consultancy and research to support emerging technologies, regulatory compliance, environment and public health, and to the provision of industry-standard accredited scientific services to support occupational hygiene professionals.
CXR Biosciences provides preclinical services, specialising in investigative toxicology, exploratory & discovery toxicology, metabolism & PK, and dermal absorption. The current dermal service at CXR offers bespoke study design and dermal absorption assay expertise (flow-through and static diffusion) to a wide range of industries, including agrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical and consumer goods/cosmetics (OECD 428 and relevant industrial guidance). Data from dermal absorption assays can be used to inform formulation design for R&D, or regulatory submissions for consumer/occupational exposure risk assessment. The dermal service will also look to expand into other areas of dermal toxicology in the future to fit with customer demands (e.g. dermal metabolism, skin irritation/skin corrosivity).
Established in 1990, Scientific Analysis Laboratories Limited has some of the most up-to-date and strategically located laboratory facilities in the UK. Centres of excellence are situated in Manchester, East Kilbride, Cambridge, Braintree and Moy.
Committed to developing relationships with customers, SAL provides a high level and personal service, routinely offering tailor-made packages to meet specific requirements.
SAL holds an extensive scope of UKAS and MCERTs accreditation for the analysis of samples collected from Air Quality / Occupational Hygiene surveys, Occupational Health assessments and Site Investigation / Remediation projects in addition to the analysis of food and feed for Pesticides and Persistent organic pollutants.
Samples can, by prior arrangement, by collected using one of SALs refrigerated vans.
